The summer clerk training programme was both an educational and enjoyable experience that kicked off right from day one. Covering everything from turning on a computer, through navigating the 'system', to learning to draft legal documents, the very comprehensive and well run programme gives you an understanding of how to work at Russell McVeagh and taught me skills I have found invaluable as a summer clerk. Expecting the skills taught to be similar to those at law school, I soon realised that it was the practical element of being a lawyer that was essential, the things you don't learn at uni.
In a broader sense, training is not limited to the first couple of weeks but the whole summer clerkship is a training simulation preparing you for becoming a real lawyer. Being able to work with the top lawyers in the country and getting real hands on legal work is priceless training in itself.
